18th Annual 5 into 1 Exhibition

For the 18th year, Philadelphia Sculptors is presenting 5 into 1, our annual exhibition showcasing the works of emerging sculptors from five Philadelphia colleges and universities: Moore College of Art & Design, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Tyler School of Art, The University of the Arts, and University of Pennsylvania. The exhibition will be on display in The Galleries at Moore College of Art & Design, 20Th Street and the Parkway, from Thursday, May 25 - Saturday, June 24, 2017. The opening reception is on Friday, June 2, from 7:00 - 8:00 PM, preceded by a special presentation by Canadian author and curator, John Grande, from 6:00 - 6:45 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.

This year’s show was curated by Gabrielle Suzenski, Rochelle F. Levy Director, The Galleries at Moore. Eighteen works were selected in a variety of mediums to engage with the concept of “transformation.”

Special Presentation 
At 6 p.m. Canadian curator John Grande will present, “Unframing the Landscape,” a look at contemporary international environmental art and artists that will include Jason deCaires Taylor’s world-famous underwater art museum.

John K. Grande has a distinguished international career as a curator and writer. He has curated Earth Art for the Pan Am Games at the Royal Botanical Gardens (2015), the Pori Art Museum in Finland (2010), Meran, South Tyrol, Italy (2014) and Small Gestures at the Mucsarnok/ Kunsthalle in Budapest, Hungary (2016). His features, reviews, interviews and poetry have appeared in British Journal of Photography, Artforum, Sculpture (USA), Arte Es (Spain), CIRCA (Ireland), 2nd Public Art Review. Books on art and ecology include Balance: Art and Nature (Black Rose 1995), Art Nature Dialogues (SUNY Press, New York 2004), Dialogues in Diversity (Pari Publishing, Italy 2008) and Nils-Udo; sur l’eau (Actes Sud, France, 2015).
