Alicia Courtney McCloskey was born in 1992 and grew up in Marlton, New Jersey. It is this location that began her affinity with the home and seaside environments. McCloskey has three sisters, and she represents and illustrates her relationships with them in her work. She is currently finishing her BFA in Ceramic/ Glass at Tyler School of Art. In studying the art of hot glass processes McCloskey soon found connections between the materiality of glass and the spaces she inhabited through out childhood.
In my work I draw inspiration with the home and seaside environments. It represents and illustrates my relationships with my family. Drawing metaphors from the melting process of glass to the ebb and flow of nostalgia found in my childhood memories. I recreate natural materials and negate their primary function. Through redisplaying the object I bring subtle importance into its meaning.
