Ancient queens, ancestors, and mysterious earth spirits have been showing up in my artwork for several years. Their forceful feminine energy comes through my hands shaping the clay: thus these skirts, torsos, bodices, hands and faces make their way into visual dimensional form. My lifelong experience making garments (from doll clothes and paper dolls, to sewing my own clothes, to jobs in costuming for opera and film) is my support in this process of inventing their earthy outfits. So, each of these silent personae, whether ancestor, dryad, guardian, or muse, becomes tangible in her very own expressive attire.
