PS Featured Recent Grad: Anthony Filipelli

Anthony Filipelli (b. 1995) is an American artist from Deerfield Beach and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He received his Master of Fine Arts degree from University of Pennsylvania’s Stuart Weitzman School of Design and his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Photography and Imaging from ArtCenter College of Design. Filipelli currently lives and works in Philadelphia with plans on relocating to New York City in 2021.

Anthony Filipelli produces one of a kind and limited edition artwork that offers new ways to perceive, contemplate, and imagine the world in which we live. He converts mass-produced products into self-actualized individuals, ubiquitous environments into anomalous space, accepts chance, and embraces procedural transparency to assist in non-deceptive outcomes. Filipelli primarily works in the physical realm to initiate tangible involvement, experiences, and dialogue.

“The pandemic sat people down on the computer more so than they were before. Luckily, I had work that needed to be done on the computer in terms of organizing my ‘digital life’. It gave me time to bring together all the work I've done since 2011, publish my website, and launch my social media accounts. Now I'm at a place where I can focus on the present, make a new work, and have it uploaded. I've got a studio on and off campus. This summer I'm going to be producing an 18 ft. geometric sculpture made up of cardboard coffins and cremation urns. I'm glad now that we're able to show work again in person and have people experience art in the flesh. My latest piece is titled, 𝘈 𝘙𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘊𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘴 𝘞𝘢𝘴 𝘗𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘢𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘶𝘱𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘧𝘵 𝘈𝘭𝘵𝘢𝘳 consisting of a 20 ft. ladder, barbell weight set, Jordans, and gazing balls among other things.”
