Evan Eisner
Bio:
Evan S. Eisner studied art at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia where he earned his CE Core Certificate. He also practiced drawing at the Arts Student League, and honed his welding skills at Delaware Valley Community College. He is a graduate of Kenyon College. His work has been exhibited at the PAFA, the Woodmere Museum, City of Philadelphia Art Gallery, Nobu Gallery, and has also been placed in private collections.
Statement:
Eisner’s metal pieces are arranged to emphasize the physicality of the material in space. His work also explores pattern, and sometimes the surface of the material and its interplay with the piece’s defined volumes. Some of his pieces may appear anthropomorphic, and others may convey a sense of place. Some pieces provoke contemporary commentary, and others are simply visually arresting. Most of his work is self-referential. Eisner generally works somewhat intuitively, guided by an idea which is shaped by the characteristics of the material and thematic and visual considerations he addresses in the moment.
Eisner draws the human figure with an attention and appreciation of its sculptural form and tactile construct, as he attempts to merge feeling with intention and intention with feeling. Trained in both tactile and perceptual approaches, his drawings ultimately express his inner dialogue.
Eisner’s abstract paintings explore color and volume, though in a less controlled manner than his metal pieces, and with an organic sensibility.
