Kristen Jordan
Bio:
Kristen Jordan is a Hawai’i based interdisciplinary artist and curator. She creates research-based sculptural installations using light as a primary medium. Her work examines the gap between direct sensory experiences and the frameworks used to give them meaning. She’s shown widely in the United States, participating in exhibitions at Tiger Strikes Asteroid, Philadelphia, PA; The Corcoran School of the Arts, Washington, DC; Aupuni Space, Honolulu, Hawai’i; among others. She holds an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
Statement:
My work is about the gap between what is experienced directly through our senses and the conceptualization of those same experiences. I mine my meditations and backyard for raw materials, examining the bones of what I perceive and why. Each installation is composed of light as a primary medium. I also frequently use indexical traces including mortar casts, found plants, photographs, and drawing. Each installation is sourced from a particular place and time, foregrounding the unstable relationships through which meaning is constructed.
