My work explores materiality, sound, form and interactive play through observation and experimentation. I look to interpret the role of iconic forms, bound-up with functional and cultural identity, and how it informs an audience’s interaction with objects. To that end, I play in my studio, experimenting with the boundaries of raw materials and object components; while creating new connections between form, function, and context. The results are a better understanding of my surrounds and the objects that inhabit my life, highlighting the interesting and unexpected of everyday experiences that frame our lives.
Much of my work is installation based and requires some participation on the user’s/audience’s part. The interactivity of my work aims to pass on my playful methods of material/object exploration to the user and allow them to come to their own conclusions and experiences within a system I’ve developed. The combination of familiar sounds used in unexpected ways, a user’s physical participation, and iconic forms and material that come with their own histories allow for individual moments of discovery and create a more immersive art experience.
