Susan Casey
Bio
Susan Casey grew up enthusiastically pursuing handicraft skills. Making, building, and tinkering helped her feel connected when family relocations interfered with building relationships in her peer group. Since attending the Tyler School of Art at Temple University (BFA 2010) and working in small furniture studios, S. Casey has laid down her roots in Philadelphia, Pa. Her current work continues to draw from interpersonal relationships and social connections. Using handmade paper, found objects, and single use packaging materials, S. Casey makes work that explores generational trauma, climate change, despair, and hope.
Statement
I work in a state of serious play, incorporating discarded toys, industrial debris, and used packaging materials to create ephemeral sculptures bound by paper fiber.
