“Immediately, the first change for me was moving back to my hometown in Millville, NJ, halfway through my junior year at Moore. At this time I was still in love with being able to layer with oil paint and I would occasionally incorporate sand or other natural elements into my paintings. Naturally, being at home meant that I spent most of my time either indoors or outside in the woods that surrounded my old house. It was then when I started collecting pinecones, to possibly include them into my paintings, but ultimately, I found myself more interested in the process of collecting. Staying home during quarantine allowed me really reflect on the space that I was surrounded by. I began creating videos to document my collecting process, and called them ‘experiments.’ It wasn't until I was able to move back to Philadephia that I then wanted to move to sculpture work. I wanted more than just a video. I started creating collections of my own in my backyard, with what I had and organizing them into different playful situations. I then moved onto experimenting with water and how to have it activated a space like I always saw happening in my earlier video work. I hope to share the stories of reflection. Either reflecting one's own space they choose to organize and create themselves or reflecting out in nature.”
